Breaking Through The Stuck: Unleash Your Potential

Life is often portrayed as a journey with clear destinations and distinct phases. We are told at a very young age to choose our paths wisely, set goals, and put in the work necessary to achieve them. But life has an interesting way of playing out in a very different way from what we were told. Instead, life can often resemble a winding journey with unexpected twists and turns, ups and downs, fulfillment and disappointments.

Have you ever found yourself neither at the beginning nor the end, but in the middle? The middle is messy, confusing, and uncomfortable. It’s scary and full of uncertainty and you now find yourself in a place of not being where you once were but not being exactly where you want to be. It’s also the place that can make you start to feel angry-angry because no one prepared you for this part.

Feeling stuck in the middle can be a perplexing and frustrating experience and I know firsthand what this feels like. There have been many times in my life where I felt stuck and was unsure of what move to make and during other times, felt that I had very little direction at all. Albeit uncomfortable, feeling stuck is a reality many of us face at some point in our lives. In this blog, journey with me on an exploration of the emotions, challenges, and opportunities that come with this unique phase of life.

1. In The Middle

Being in the middle can manifest in various aspects of life. You may one day find yourself in a mid-career slump, feeling unfulfilled in a long-term relationship that has lost its initial spark, or may even be feeling stuck between yo

ur past and future self. Regardless of how you found yourself in this place and the area of your life where you are experiencing it, feeling stuck in the middle can evoke a sense of uncertainty and restlessness.

2. Emotional Turbulence

One of the most common emotions associated with feeling stuck in the middle is restlessness. You may start to feel like you're treading water or as I sometimes like to say, swimming without a life jacket. You may begin to feel as though you are not moving forward or backward. This can lead to frustration, anxiety, and a sense of unfulfillment. When in the middle, it may cause you to begin comparing your life to others or engaging in negative self-talk that causes you to question your own value or worth. It's crucial to acknowledge these emotions rather than suppressing them. Your emotions often provide valuable information about what matters to you and what might need attention in your life. Acknowledging these emotions can guide problem-solving and decision-making.

3. Understanding the Source

To address these feelings, it's essential to identify the source of your "stuck" sensation. Is it a lack of clear goals or a sense of complacency? Is it the fear of change or uncertainty about the future? Pinpointing the root cause can help you develop a strategy for moving forward and shows you so much about YOU!

4. Reevaluating Goals

The good news about going through anything is how it can be used as a teachable moment- if you let it. Feeling stuck in the middle can be an excellent opportunity for reevaluating your goals and priorities. Sometimes, we get so caught up in reaching our objectives that we forget to question if they're still relevant or meaningful to us. Take this time to reflect on what truly matters to you and whether your current path aligns with those values.

5. Embrace Growth

The middle isn't just a stagnant phase; it's also a period of GROWTH. Just as a plant grows strong roots before it blooms, this middle phase can provide the foundation for personal and professional development. Embrace the opportunities for learning and self-discovery that come with uncertainty.

6. Seek Support

Don't hesitate to seek support when you feel stuck in the middle. Talk to friends, family, or a therapist. Sharing your thoughts and concerns can provide new perspectives and emotional relief. 7. Create Momentum

Even if you can't see the finish line from where you are, you can still create momentum. Set small, achievable goals that push you forward. These milestones can help you regain a sense of purpose and accomplishment. And when you accomplish a goal, no matter how big or small, celebrate yourself!

8. Patience and Acceptance

Finally, practice patience and acceptance. I too have had to understand that life doesn't always follow a linear path. Sometimes, the middle is a necessary part of the journey, and it may take time to find your way. Trust that your efforts will eventually lead you to a more fulfilling destination and ditch the whole idea of trying to do things according to some timeline that you have created for yourself. There are just some things in this life that can’t be measured including when it’s your appointed time!

Feeling stuck in the middle is a common human experience, and it's okay to acknowledge and work through these emotions. It's a phase that offers opportunities for growth, self-reflection, and reevaluation of your life's direction. By embracing the uncertainty and learning to navigate it, you can find a renewed sense of purpose and move closer to the next chapter of your life. Remember, the middle is just a part of your journey, not the end of it.
